Canvas Abstract Paintings

A Straw and a Paperclip.

These are the tools I use to create my paintings.

I am not a trained artist, and I’ve certainly never had any sort of painting instructions or lessons. I am just a regular person who thought it would be fun to give painting a try.

Initially, I attempted painting a canvas with paintbrushes, but I had absolutely no idea what I was doing so the end result was on par with a finger painting done by a 5 year old. I then decided to try a pour-and-tilt method which created interesting swirls of color across the canvas. The result was very cool and very abstract, but this method was very messy and provided only a minimal amount of control over the outcome.

Creating Something New

So, I thought how cool would it be if I could actually control the paint swirls to create something more concrete. I then headed to my kitchen to find a tool that would allow me to do this: a drinking straw. And this is where my painting journey began. I blow air through the straw to move and swirl paint around a canvas, and I use a straightened paperclip for fine detail work.

I really don’t know why the straw and the paperclip work for me - they just do. I learn as I go. No rules to follow. No techniques to adhere to. Just a chance to jam to some tunes while I mess around with some paint hoping to create something that might possibly add a little beauty to this world.

Thanks so much for visiting my site, and I hope you enjoy my artwork. Be sure to check out the time-lapse videos to see how these paintings come to life.
